What is window glazing?

Window glazing is essentially the process of applying putty to hold the glass in place within the window frames. The process of installing glazing compound involves applying it in layers between putty and glass until it dries completely and forms a seal between them. This substance helps maintain a tight fit between putty and glass while also sealing out water and air leaks from inside or outside your home.

How long does window glazing take to dry before painting?

To properly prepare a window for glazing, it’s important to know how long putty takes to dry. Putty takes between 7-14 days to dry. Leave it to dry completely before painting. It is important to note that you should not leave the putty unpainted for longer than 17 days.

Can you use caulk for window glazing?

No, you cannot use caulk for window glazing. The window glazing putty and caulk are non-interchangeable. Substituting one for another can cause problems.
